Food can benefit your mood!

Wow, so I never thought I would learn so much about food and what it does to your body, but I as well just learned that it can affect what mood you're in! Crazy! I just read the article How Food benefits Mood and it gave me a lot of new interesting information that I had no idea about before before. The BBC did a survey with 200 people and 88% reported that changing their diet improved their mental health significantly. People in the survey said that cutting down on the "stressor" foods and increasing the amount of "supporter" foods had a beneficial affect on their mood. Stressor foods include: sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and chocolate. Supporter foods include: water, vegetables, fruit, and oil-rich fish. Another way to boost mood is by eating breakfast and eating regularly.

Richard Brook, chief executor of Mind, said, " At a simple level we all know certain foods are good for us or can affect our mood. However, linking real information and evidence with effective ways of using it can be a really efficient tool in managing your mental health." This caught my eye because it was a real survey they did that almost 90% of the people had the same answer. Food affects your mood, the better you eat, the better mood you're in. The worse you eat, the worse mood you'll be in. It makes sense. Time to start eating even more healthy all the time so I can always be in a good mood...or at least most of the time ;)

10 Healthy Foods under a Dollar!

I just read a really neat article because I learned of new very healthy foods that I could buy under a dollar. Of course, I knew most of them would be some types of fruits and vegetables, but I learned of a couple of other cheap foods that are extremely healthy! One of my favorite I learned about was lentils. I love lentils! I had them a ton on my mission in Chile and they were extremely good! Who would have thought that you can get lentils for 14 cents a serving! Any of you who are scared to try lentils, go for the plunge! They're not only amazing in soups but sooo good for you. They provide 9 grams of fiber, 6 grams of protein, and 8% of the daily amount of iron you're supposed to take in.

Another thing I really liked on the list was yogurt. Just for sixty cents,(sometimes less!) you can get 8 ounces of yogurt to eat alone, use for smoothies, or even use for dips! In just 8 ounces of yogurt, you can get 45% of your daily value for calcium, and live cultures such as acidophilus and bifidus. Some of the other foods I really liked were canned beans, oranges, bananas, pears, canned tomatoes, baby carrots, and pearl barly. Some might not even know what pearl barly is. I heard it's really good in soups and stews. Just look up a recipe with pearl barly and I'm sure you'll find a ton of good soups or stews you can make with this very cheap, healthy food!

Eating Certain Foods Can Improve Your Health, Mind, and Appearance

I recently read an article called What you eat can improve your health, mind, and appearance. It was fabulous because I learned about even more foods that can help out all different types of your body. The first thing I liked about what Dr. David L. Katz, director of the Yale Prevention Research Center at Yale University said. He quoted " The more colors you get into your diet, the better!" I know I've heard that before, but hearing it again from a healthy foods article puts it back into perspective for me that it really is true. One thing that really stood out to me was something he said about fish. He explained that just from eating two servings of fish a week decreases your chance of having macular degeneration(a serious eye disease that occurs later on in life) by fifty percent! Who would have thought! That definitely changes what type of ain meat source I'll be wanting to buy from the grocery stores in my future. This is especially more applicable to me because my grandma has this disease making me more susceptibleto contracting it later on in life.

Another part I really enjoyed is when he talked about having more silky hair. Now, I know this may not be such a desire for boys, but it would be something guys want for their wives or girlfriends, right? Iknew this part would be found more fascinating by girls though. He mentioned that in order to get more shiny, healthy hair, we need to eat more foods high in calcium and quality protein. These kind of foods consist of: eggs, dairy foods, and of once again fish. Since healthy hair starts at the hair follicle, eating good foods like these will nourish follicle cells, and provide a structural component for both bone and hair.

One of the best things I learned was how to improve your mind. Doctors in the article said that both Omega-3 fatty acids as well as whole grains help your brain to be healthy. As well stated that diets rich in Vitamin E and C are associated with lower levels of cognitive impairment and aging. As well, folate and Vitamin B12 lowers the risk fo Alzheimers.

I learned a ton from this article and I know you would too! I didn't even get to mention half of what I learned, but the article provides a lot more healthy foods that provide good health for your heart and bones as well!

What You Put on Your Plate is Even More Important Than What You Put on Your Skin!

Want better looking more healthy skin? Reading Foods for Healthy Skin: You Are What You Eat has informed me of great ways of improving your skin, just from what you eat. In fact, one of the best ways to get healthy skin is to get plenty of Vitamin A. This can usually found in low-fat dairy products. Nutrition expert, Liz Lipinski, PHD stated that "Anything that helps keep digestion normal, any live bacteria or enzymes, is also going to be reflected in healthy-looking skin." Experts also stated that the mineral selenium plays a key role for health in skin cells. This mineral can be found in such foods such as whole wheat bread, muffins, cereals, turkey, tuna, and brazil nuts.
Researchers stated in the article that when more whole-grains are consumed, their leaves less room for the "white" foods which aren't as healthy for your skin. This includes such food as bread, white rice, cake, and pasta. These often affect insulin levels, causing inflammation that may be linked to skin break outs. Better looking skin also comes from eating plenty of blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, and plums. These fruits help your skin from being damaged and guard against premature aging. They will help keep your skin to look young for longer periods of time! To get healthier looking skin that will last a longer time, stick to eating these types of foods!
